Mental Health Day

Yet again, we woke up to snow. Only today it is now turning to an icey mess. School is delayed for 2 hours. Of course, I still had to get up at 5:30 am to find this out, because you just know….the one day there is a storm coming in overnight, and I sleep in late, figuring they will have a delay…they won’t.

has a half hour bus ride to school. She is fortunate because she is towards the end of the bus run. Our small town doesn’t have a high school. They go to another town for 9th through 12th grade.

So, when there is a 2 hour delay…really…what is the point of going???? By the time she gets there, it will be 10:30 or so. They get out at 2:14. And on a Friday??? The Friday before a short week….they have Monday off for Martin Luther King Day, then finals and midterms for three days, and then Friday off for a teacher’s workshop (code for “we don’t want to work today”).

So I have decided that she needs a mental health day. She will not be going to school today. She has what she needs for her final/midterm on Tuesday.

Her best friend attended her last day at school yesterday. At 15 years old, it is devestating to lose your best friend to a move. You know they are still your best friend, you have not had a fight or anything. They don’t hate you, or you them. That makes it all the harder. She still loves ya, you still love her. But she will be gone! Poof! Not fair in the teenage world of fairness.

So in honor of my beautiful wingnut, everyone gets a mental health day today! Here are some key tips for what to do to make it a successful day:
1. Do not, under any circumstances, get out of those stained, but oh so comfy baggie jammies.
2. Lay somewhere…couch, bed, floor…and watch hours of mindless drivel on the boob tube.
3. Eat junk food…nothing healthy should be injested by your fragile system.
4. Do not answer the phone.
5. Doze off anytime your body feels the need. Naps are good for the mental part of your health.
